Our History
The need to have a chamber of commerce to address the needs of the African American businesses in Kern County was evident. Efforts were being made in the northern part of the valley however; a need to focus on Kern County was sought after. Several officers from the San Joaquin Valley Black Chamber of Commerce, based in the Fresno area; came to Bakersfield and met with some interested business owners to plan a local presence.
Those businesses in Bakersfield felt it important to have a voice as well as an advocate that would focus on the needs for the African American businesses, to promote growth and economic development. A decision was made to go forth with the mission to setup a Kern County Back chamber.
In 2003 documents were filed and KCBCC was empowered. The 501 c. 6. status was granted in April of 2004
